“A great teacher is one who realizes that he himself is also a student and whose goal is not dictate the answers, but to stimulate his students' creativity enough so that they go out and find the answers themselves.”

- Herbie Hancock

Inspire.

I have been teaching music for almost as long as I can remember playing it. In high school I began teaching students weekly, typically averaging around 5 students a week. These lessons ranged from guitar players of different levels to classical and marching band horn students, as well as some music theory lessons.

Connecting with a student, finding out where they currently are on their musical journey and where they want go, and developing a map to accomplish this growth are my favorite aspects of teaching. Too often I find music lessons (especially online ones) are cookie cutter, copy and paste jobs that don’t take these things into account.

My own journey has been a very non-linear path, full of false starts, leaps, failures, successes and pivots along the way. I love working with guitarists with limited background in jazz, musical notation, theory, etc and finding ways to meet them where they are and present these concepts in easily understandable terms.

I am currently offering in person lessons in Columbia, SC as well as virtual lessons for anywhere else in the world. I would love to speak with you about what you are looking to do and how I can help you get there.
